The Symptom is The Solution
Judul artikel ini terinspirasi dari pernyataan Milton Erickson (1986), “The symptom is a solution.” Judul di atas sedikit berbeda karena saya mengubah “a” dengan “the” sebagai penekanan bahwa solusi dari satu masalah pasti dapat dicapai melalui simtom yang dialami klien.
Apakah yang dimaksud dengan”the symptom is the solution”?
Adanya suatu masalah disadari dan diketahui karena adanya simtom yang bisa dirasakan, baik pada level fisik maupun pikiran dan atau emosi. Dengan kata lain simtom ini berguna sebagai pemberitahuan resmi kepada diri kita akan adanya masalah yang perlu mendapat perhatian dan diselesaikan.
Simtom yang tidak terlalu mengganggu biasanya kurang mendapat perhatian. Biasanya bila intensitas gangguan yang ditimbulkan simtom telah cukup atau sangat mengganggu aktivitas sehari-hari barulah kita akan memberikan perhatian dan berusaha untuk bisa segera menghilangkan simtom ini.
Simtom ibarat asap. Tidak mungkin ada asap tanpa ada api. Dengan adanya asap kita dapat mencari dan menemukan api yang menjadi sumber munculnya asap. Selama api belum dipadamkan maka asap akan selalu muncul. Dem
